Adjunct - Creative Writing (Fiction)

Department: Languages and Literature

Rate: $1400 per contact hour (with a terminal degree) and $1200 per contact hour (without a terminal degree). This compensation is per contact hour and is subject to change based on class size.

Brief overview of duties: The Department of Languages and Literature seeks well-qualified applicants to teach an introductory course in creative writing (fiction) in spring 2026. The class will enroll students with no prior experience writing fiction as well as those with some background, so the successful applicant will be able to work with both groups effectively.

The modality for this class is in person: all class sessions will be held at Benedictine's main campus in Lisle, IL. Scheduling is flexible, with teaching times available on either a Monday/Wednesday or a Tuesday/Thursday schedule.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold either a Master’s degree or Ph.D.; MFA in creative writing/fiction preferred.
  • Experience teaching creative writing is required.

Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to touch and handle, reach with hands and arms, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, and perform tasks involving computer screens, phones, and customer service. Bending or sitting for long periods may be required. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Campus-specific pandemic protocols must be followed.

Training: All university-specific and OSHA-related training must be completed online or in person as required.
