Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis

Department Description

The Department of Journalism and Sports Media is composed of two distinct majors. Many journalism classes require students to produce video and digital stories for an audience. The NewsPoint Network Assistant will gain a deeper understanding and knowledge on how a news operation is managed.

Job Description

The NewsPoint Network Assistant will be responsible for leading and producing the broadcast news show. He/She will also be responsible for editing, selecting stories and maintaining the NewsPoint website.

Job Location/ Hours Required

The candidate will perform most/all job duties in the NQSC studio on the first floor. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

• Leading the broadcast news show by selecting stories that will air and what order they will appear
• Editing stories that appear on the NewsPoint website
• Selecting and updating stories that appear on the NewsPoint website
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

The NewsPoint Network Assistant must have experience with the NewsPoint Network broadcast operation, as well as copy editing experience.

Desired Skills:

• Must have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA
• Strong language and Associated Press style skills
• Excellent grasp of broadcast news operations
• Hours per week (6-10 depending on weekly news cycle)
