Teen Librarian, Nashua Public Library (Nashua, NH)

The Nashua Public Library is looking for an innovative, energetic, and community-focused person to join our team as the next teen librarian. If you consider yourself an advocate for youth and families and feel passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space for teens we want to meet you.

The library continues to grow and evolve with the best of 21st-century library programming, technology, and services to meet the community's needs. Our mission is to enrich our community by being a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment to discover, connect, create, and grow.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

As part of the Youth Services team, this position provides direct service to customers at public service desks with a focus on youth services. Participates in print and digital collection development. Plans timely and innovative programs for teens, caregivers and families. Collaborates with the children’s librarian to serve tweens. Contributes to the department’s marketing efforts. Serves as liaison to staff at local organizations and schools serving teens and tweens. Develops community partnerships that support the library’s strategic goals. Plans and participates in community engagement activities with schools and community-based organizations. Creates a welcoming space for teens and tweens. Duties may also include special assignments and projects related to the work of the department. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with a schedule including evenings and weekends. This position is part of Local 4831 and has a salary ranging from $53,629 to $56,361, depending on education and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum of Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited institution and 2 years public library experience OR BS/BA and 3-5 years related experience in a public library setting

Ability to work as part of a team in a busy public library and interact with a diverse public in a welcoming and respectful way

Thorough understanding of adolescent development and advance knowledge of library services to teens

A strong knowledge of tween and teen literature

Proficiency and experience with MS Office and demonstrated ability and interest in using computers, Internet, mobile and emerging technologies as it relates to resources for services for youth and caregivers

The successful candidate must enjoy working directly with teens
