Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for all library management areas, including but not limited to:
- Personnel
- Collection Development
- Budgeting
- Policy Development, Management, and Implementation
- Grant Writing
- E-Rate Application
- Community Relations
- Records Management and Accounting
- Long-Range Planning
Working with and filing financial information and reports with various federal and state agencies. The Director reports to a five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors and must adhere to all regulations and statutes of the Mississippi Library Commission and the State of Mississippi.
Requirements
A master's degree in library science is preferred but not required. The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor's degree. Applicants without an MLS/MLIS must complete or plan to complete nine (9) semester hours of master's-level library science courses within three (3) years of hire. Public library, supervisory, and administrative experience are highly preferred. Candidates must have computer skills, a record of excellent customer service and leadership, and knowledge of financial software such as QuickBooks.
Salary & Benefits
The starting annual salary ranges from $32,000 to $38,000, based on a 40-hour work week. Benefits include personal and medical leave, paid state health insurance, Mississippi Public Employees' Retirement, and participation in the state's life insurance and deferred compensation plans. Evening, weekend, or after-hours work may be required. Travel and participation in library-related educational programs and conferences are also expected. Reimbursement for Master's degree completion is available.

Additional Information
Work will be split between two locations: two days per week at Vaiden and three days at Carrollton. The role involves office work, community involvement outside regular hours, frequent contact with staff, community members, public officials, and organizations. Travel during work hours, including attending quarterly meetings with supervisors and town councils, is required.
