Brief Description
Luther College seeks an Assistant Professor of Music-Voice to contribute to our commitment to academic excellence in teaching, research/performance, and community service for a tenure-eligible position to begin Fall 2026. Tenor voice preferred; baritone, bass-baritone, or bass will also be considered. We seek candidates with the ability and interest in teaching the equivalent of six full courses per year spread over fall, January, and spring terms. Primary teaching responsibilities includes applied lessons. Additional courses in the applicant’s area of expertise and needs of the college may include but are not limited to courses such as opera workshop, diction, vocal pedagogy, vocal literature, class voice, and musical theatre performance. These courses serve students in our music, music education, musical theatre, and general education programs.

Candidates with broad experience in performing and teaching in a variety of musical styles are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should hold a doctorate in music or expect to complete all requirements by September 1, 2027. Demonstrated experience teaching applied voice lessons (preferably at the undergraduate level) is required. The successful candidate will communicate knowledge of and interest in teaching at Luther College. Candidates should demonstrate potential for excellence in college teaching and effectiveness in mentoring undergraduates, as well as promising scholarly and creative interests compatible with undergraduate education.
Luther College is located in rural Northeast Iowa, a regional hub for outdoor recreation in the vibrant and scenic Driftless region, containing two nationally recognized healthcare systems, top ranked schools, business, agriculture, specialty retail, dining and tourism. Major Midwest metropolitan areas within a three-hour driving distance include Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; and Madison, WI. We are an easy drive to La Crosse, WI, Cedar Falls/Waterloo, IA, and Rochester, MN, home of Mayo Clinic.
