We are looking for a passionate and energetic newsroom leader who will direct daily news content decisions with a producer-like mentality. Candidate must possess strong news judgement and a competitive fire to drive audience growth on all platforms. The candidate must also have strong leadership skills and the ability to generate impactful news content ideas and strategies. The Assistant News Director will work closely with the News Director on recruiting, planning, and establishing Newsroom goals.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the News Director with the management of all aspects of the News Department
- Foster a winning newsroom culture focused on high-level execution of weather and breaking news coverage
- Assists with planning, staffing, and training
- Work closely with news content staff to create original programming
- Assigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being met
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Minimum five years’ experience in news programming production, with leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution
