Salary: $18.50 per hour

Under the direction of the Marketing Director, the Media Coordinator is responsible for planning, writing, and managing communications regarding library development, services, and programs. Duties may require independent judgement and action within specific parameters.


Essential Duties:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local media, including television, radio, newspapers, and other media, for the purpose of increasing public awareness of the library and its programs and services.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases.
  • Create social media posts, reels, etc. that promote library events.
  • Write library blog and other media announcements.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop and implement marketing campaigns and monthly printed newsletters, including writing content for projects and the library website.
  • Responsible for video recording of programs and promotional materials.
  • Prepare an electronic newsletter and maintain its membership.
  • Interact extensively with the public and vendors.
  • Work with other library staff to write and assist in designing promotional materials for library programs and services.
  • Prepare reports and compile statistics reflecting library activities and programs.
  • Work to coordinate day-to-day activities that lead to the completion of projects and tasks.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to produce the librarys podcast and upload it to the website and Spotify.
  • Perform routine website updates with program events and announcements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Expected Hours of Work:

Required to work 37.5 hours a week. On-site attendance, some evenings, and weekends are required.


Must work the following non-negotiable work schedule:

  • Tuesdays 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Wednesdays 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Thursdays 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Fridays 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Saturdays 9:00 am - 5:30 pm



Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, journalism, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience and training in communications and/or public relations to include social media, research, creative writing skills, and writing content for the website.
  • Writing for SEO is a plus



Required Skills:

  • Possesses strong analytical, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills as well as the ability to anticipate future needs
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with various social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of and experience with desktop publishing.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Suite and layout design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing, including through email.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to be tactful and respect confidentiality.
  • Foster an environment that attracts and invites patrons to use the library.
  • Ability to adapt, remain flexible, and flourish in a changing environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Keeps abreast of and understands emerging technologies, current trends, and best practices for the department.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, volunteer groups of varying personalities and ages, and to serve the public courteously in a variety of situations.

Physical Demands

  • Moving up to 50lbs. carts and handling moderately heavy boxes of books when the occasion requires.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, type, pick, pinch, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Movement through facility locations and assisting patrons.
  • Ability to handle books, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to reach above the head and below the knee to retrieve shelved items.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to identify materials on shelving up to 90 and to read primarily typed or printed text in a variety of type sizes.



Work Environment

  • Climate-controlled environment inside the building.
  • Barrier-free work area
