Geographical Information Systems Technician Trainee

San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Technician Trainee who will utilize the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain a wide variety of maps, data and geospatial information products.

The incumbents will assist in developing customer map and/or geospatial data product requirements, use Esri's ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro map production tools to compose and generate a wide variety of geospatial products. Performs quality control on encoded data, reviews output for accuracy and performs quality checks on GIS products.

A vacancy currently exists in the Sheriff's Department. The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

Applicants must meet one of the options below in order to qualify:

  • Nine (9) semester or fourteen (14) quarter units of completed college coursework in GIS software and theory, geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology or a closely related field.
  • Six (6) months of experience using GIS software to update geospatial databases.
  • Six (6) months of experience serving as a PSE, WEX, or Intern for a San Bernardino County department, performing GIS related duties.

A list of related coursework must be submitted with the application if no degree has been conferred.
