Job Description
The Grant Writer plays an important role in supporting Fresh Start’s fundraising efforts through grant writing, reporting and research. This part-time position is responsible for researching potential funding sources, preparing letters of inquiry, drafting grant proposals, and writing required grants reports.
To effectively communicate the impact of Fresh Start’s work, the Grant Writer must develop a working knowledge of the organization’s programs, services, and measurable outcomes. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, an excellent writer, and able to manage deadlines independently while working collaboratively with the Development and Program teams.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Grants Manager. The pay is commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in researching new foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities.
- Write letters of inquiry (LOIs), proposals, and reports for current and prospective funders.
- Maintain organized grant files and assist in tracking application statuses and outcomes of assigned grants.
- Collaborate weekly with Development and Program staff to gather necessary information for proposals and reports.
- Ensure proposals align with grantor guidelines and organizational priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
- Minimum of one to two (1–2) years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel); experience with donor databases is a plus.

Requirements:
- Part-time: Approximately 20–25 hours per week.
- Hybrid or remote work schedule available.
- Ongoing collaboration and communication with the Grants Manager is expected
- Occasional attendance at meetings or events may be required.
