We are seeking a

Director of Communications & Marketing

at the

Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS)

. This role involves planning, designing, implementing, and managing communications, marketing, earned media, owned media, and paid media strategies for the division. The Director will shape and advance the communication strategy, message, and brand across various levels, including local, state, national, and global communications. Collaboration with faculty, staff, students, the central communications & marketing team, and other media departments is essential to ensure a comprehensive and coherent dissemination of communication materials.

The Director will also be responsible for ensuring accurate representation of the division across multiple media platforms, managing budgets, and overseeing the fiscal aspects of communication and media projects. Key Responsibilities include: Providing vision, leadership, and counsel for the division's communications, including overseeing an integrated communications plan. Developing and implementing stakeholder communication strategies to share the division's work with funders, school leadership, industry partners, and policymakers. Identifying strategic communication opportunities and developing benchmarks to evaluate effectiveness. Managing visibility, branding, and promotion through various media, including online, print, radio, and TV. Creating and overseeing original content across multiple platforms and channels. Consulting with senior leadership, faculty, and staff on communication and marketing strategies. Formulating and managing media relations at local, state, and national levels, including social media outlets. Establishing communication and marketing policies and procedures. Conducting research to advise leadership and evaluating the effectiveness of strategies. Fostering relationships with media outlets, potentially at an international scope. Collaborating with development staff on fundraising materials. Managing professional staff and departmental budgets, including external contracts. Performing other related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field. Ten years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in journalism. Technical Skills and Proficiency: Branding, Campaign Management, Communications Planning, Copywriting, Content Management, Editing, Email Marketing, Media Monitoring and Analysis, Public Speaking, Search Engine Optimization, Stakeholder Engagement, Workflow Management, Writing — all at an advanced level. The IPS at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing adopts an interdisciplinary approach to develop practical solutions that influence practice and policy, with a focus on eliminating health inequities and improving health outcomes nationwide and globally. The Institute aims to create policy pathways, elevate nursing's policy and media culture, and serve as a resource for policymakers and media outlets. This position is classified as: Director of Communications & Marketing, with a salary range of $86,300 - $151,000 annually, based on experience. It is a full-time, hybrid role based in Washington, D.C., within the School of Nursing.
