Konami Gaming is looking for a Sound Designer III to join our team!
Sound Designer III plans and produces original music and sound effects for slot machines and other gaming platforms. They collaborate with programmers to implement audio assets and explore strategic sound design approaches that enhance gameplay. By creating emotionally resonant audio grounded in player psychology, they contribute to the evolution of the company’s audio vision. Leveraging technical and project management skills, they lead intermediate-scale projects, mentor team members, and actively improve the audio pipeline. They also ensure smooth audio integration across departments throughout the development process.

What you\'ll be doing
- Plans and composes original sound design and music for video and stepper slot machines, as well as other gaming platforms.
- Uses sound effects, background music (BGM), and voiceover strategically to emphasize gameplay elements and explore new functional sound approaches.
- Collaborates with programmers to implement audio assets using scripting and integration tools.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of development workflows across a wide range of game types, platforms, and products.
- Performs complex audio data setup efficiently and with minimal errors, including integration of new technologies and platforms with limited support.
- Participates in the audio adaptation and conversion of legacy games for different platforms, ensuring sound quality and consistency across different hardware and software environments.
- Identifies and proposes solutions for process improvement within the audio pipeline.
- Designs sound from the player’s perspective, aligning with psychological expectations, particularly those of players who are deeply engaged in gaming, and enhancing emotional engagement.
- Assigns priority to sound design areas based on their potential impact on player experience, ensuring focused and effective implementation.
- Creates competitive and emotionally resonant sound that reflects industry standards and player behavior, contributing to and refining company sound direction.
- Manages intermediate-scale projects independently or collaboratively, delivering high-quality results within budget and timelines.
- Executes assigned tasks with minimal supervision and manages time effectively.
- Anticipates scheduling challenges and communicates proactively to support timeline adjustments.
- Initiates complex sound design tasks outside of scheduled projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating proactive ownership.
- Supports and mentors fellow sound designers, providing guidance on intermediate to advanced sound design challenges.
- Collaborates effectively with teams across Games R&D, including studios and cross-functional departments, to ensure smooth integration of audio into the broader development process.
- Coordinates, reviews, and verifies game sound with Compliance, Legal, Software, and other departments, as necessary to ensure proper integration.
- Applies and upholds the company’s sound direction, while proactively proposing enhancements that align with and elevate the creative vision.

Qualifications
What we\'ll want you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field, plus 5–7 years of experience in game sound development.
- Alternatively: 4+ years of professional experience in the music or sound design industry, plus 5–7 years of experience in game sound development.
- Master’s degree in Music, Sound Design, or a related field, plus 3–5 years of experience in game sound development.
- Alternatively: 6+ years of professional experience in the music or sound design industry, plus 3–5 years of experience in game sound development.
- Demonstrates advanced understanding of sound design principles, including sound effects creation, music composition, audio editing, and acoustic engineering.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in either sound effects creation or music composition, and strong proficiency in the other.
- Actively self-educates on new sound design techniques and contributes to team growth by sharing and teaching acquired knowledge.
- Capable of preparing progress reports and organizing/maintaining relevant documentation.
- Ability to quickly learn platform specifications and proprietary audio tools.
- Communicates professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required gaming licensure(s).
- Near-expert in multiple audio production software applications, such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, Digital Performer, Sound Forge, WaveLab, and Pro Tools. Can field questions as needed.
- Knowledge or experience with audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD is strongly desirable.
- Able to use Microsoft Excel from basic operations to moderately advanced functions (e.g., formulas, data organization).
Work Environment
- Full-time / 40+ hours per week. Must be flexible to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Must be comfortable working in an area with limited working space for long hours with the ability to remain seated at computer terminal for extended periods of time. Extreme repetitive motion using keyboard, mouse, and telephone. Must be able to work at assigned location to enable direct communications and interactions with team members, management, and others as necessary, unless traveling for a business-related purpose.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy, paying attention to detail, and meeting assigned deadlines. Demonstrates high integrity, trust, and strict confidentiality. Ability to maintain excellent communication and a positive, respectful, and professional attitude and relationship with clients, employees, peers, co-workers, all levels of management, and all outside organizations conducting business or otherwise interacting with the company. Ability to always act autonomously while adhering to overall department and company policies and procedures.
- Position shall work primarily in a smoke free office environment. The noise level is low to moderate. Position shall maintain a cubicle or office in close proximity to other cubicles and offices.
