Augusta University's Department of Communication is hiring an Assistant Professor in Integrated Strategic Communication. This is a tenure-track position anticipated to begin August 1, 2026. The preferred candidate will be expected to have a PhD in communication, mass communication, communication studies, or media studies, or a closely related discipline. The candidate may be expected to teach communication courses in the areas of Health Communication, Campaigns, Social Media, as well as COMM 1110 (public speaking). The candidate is expected to maintain a robust record of research, serve on department and college committees, and work well with both colleagues and students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in Health Communication, Campaigns, Social Media, and COMM 1110.
  • Maintain a robust record of research; conduct peer-reviewed research.
  • Provide service for the department, college and university.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in communication, mass communication, communication studies, or media studies, or a closely related discipline.
  • Early career faculty member (Assistant Professor).
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for USG institutions and all academic ranks shall include:
    • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for institutional accreditation.
    • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
    • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
    • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
    • Desirable personal qualities judged based on personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and ability to teach media analytics.
  • Expertise in research methods.

Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in the offer letter and yearly contract. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, and are subject to the availability of funds. Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, internal equity, and market data. College / Department Information

The Department of Communication at Augusta University prepares students for today’s rapidly changing workplace and emphasizes transferable skills that employers demand in dynamic, creative, and team-oriented environments. The department offers an integrated curriculum with the goal of producing graduates with broad knowledge of communication, including fundamental skills of the professions and an understanding of the theoretic, legal, and ethical dimensions of communication. The department’s areas of study include communication studies, journalism, public relations, and audio and video production. The department has a video production lab, a student newspaper and magazine, a student television newscast, student-produced podcasts, a scholarly journal, and several student organizations, including the Media Club and the Society of Professional Journalists. The Department of Communication is housed in the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The College is home to 7 departments, more than 1,300 majors, over 200 full-time and part-time faculty, and more than 60 academic programs, including Masters programs in Intelligence and Security Studies, Public Administration, and Psychology. It also houses and operates a state-of-the art Television, Cinema, and Podcasting Lab. Pamplin College funds competitive internal small grants and fellowship programs, including the Summer Pamplin RSCA Small Grants Program, the Pamplin Professional Impact Fund, a Humanities Fellowship, and Center for Social Science Research Fellowships. The college is also home to the Center for Social Science Research and the Qualitative Research Lab, both of which provide research infrastructure to faculty working broadly in the social sciences.
