The Assistant Director of Content at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business helps to elevate Chicago Booth’s global awareness, lead generation, and faculty research across all of Booth’s marketing channels. In this junior-level role, they ensure content is strategic, engaging, creative, error-free, and communicated through Booth’s brand voice. The Assistant Director of Content has a passion for storytelling, leveraging data, and working collaboratively to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, from prospective students to alumni to global business leaders. As a key member of the Brand Team, the Assistant Director of Content fosters an environment of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in support of Booth’s mission and values.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate closely with Creative and Digital Teams to develop content that is engaging, brand-aligned, and strategically supports departmental objectives.
- Working alongside and reporting to the Director of Content, develop new pages and sections on chicagobooth.edu, from contributing to initial website content strategy to building out pages within our CMS, Sitecore, helping to ensure web pages meet best practices for content, SEO, and overall digital engagement.
- Proactively ensure content across chicagobooth.edu is up-to-date and make updates as needed. Works closely with the Director of Content on the content governance of Booth’s website. Makes daily updates to chicagobooth.edu.
- Help with content migration projects on chicagobooth.edu.
- Contribute regularly to Booth’s storytelling efforts on its enterprise social media channels, from brainstorming new tactics to interviewing students, alumni, and faculty, to writing content.
- Contribute to Booth’s storytelling and content creation efforts for its online story hub, Booth Stories, including interviewing students, alumni, and faculty. Additionally, factchecks articles, writes articles, and builds stories in Booth’s CMS.
- Develop content for email marketing campaigns, ensuring copy follows best practices, brand style guide, and brand voice.
- Proofread content across marketing channels for factual accuracy, grammar, spelling, and adherence to Booth’s in-house style guide.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a writing-related field—such as journalism, English, or communications—is required.
- Between 2–5 years of experience in content development with a brand, agency, or in a publishing environment. Previous work in higher education or other nonprofit space a plus.
- Experience working in content management systems, including web content management systems, social platforms, email platforms, and other systems. Sitecore and/or Marketo experience a plus.
- A passion for storytelling and developing new ways to tell stories for a global brand is required.
- Strong interest in social media and digital trends required.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills required.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to support planning processes and contribute thoughtful ideas to team discussions.
- Ability to handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
- Impeccable and proven attention to detail skills required. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style preferred.
- Professional and approachable demeanor, with the ability to communicate respectfully, handle sensitive information with care, and provide helpful, responsive support to colleagues and stakeholders. Must be open to feedback and constructive criticism.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills required.
