This is a paid freelance and remote position with ScreenRant. The role focuses on sourcing, curating, and editing entertainment news and coordinating with writers to ensure timely coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Core responsibility is sourcing news in a timely fashion
  • Adding news titles and sources to Asana for writers to claim
  • Understanding what makes a good news title or angle
  • Judging whether a story is flash news, standard news, or suited for a feature
  • Ensuring news quotas are hit and deciding when to overrun or pass to features
  • Assigning news articles and communicating with writers on news assignments
  • Editing news articles and prioritizing timely edits
  • Prepping soft or niche news for weekends
  • Providing writer feedback and development
  • Writing news articles when needed, especially for fastest turnaround on breaking news
  • Attending weekly team meetings

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in producing entertainment and related content
  • In-depth familiarity with and passion for the entertainment industry, especially the latest Network TV news
  • Experience with SEO practices
  • Experience with a custom CMS, preferred
