Overview
Music Therapist role at St. Croix Hospice provides music therapy services under the direction of the clinical supervisor or clinical director and according to the individualized plan of care.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct music therapy according to the directions of the clinical supervisor/clinical director and in accordance with the plan of care.
- Assess referrals/patients for appropriate medical indication for services and perform assessments to determine effectiveness of therapy.
- Treat patients to relieve symptoms and provide psychological, psychosocial, physical, and spiritual comfort.
- Direct and aid patients through music therapy interventions to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, agitation, restlessness, depression, pain, emotional distress (patient and family), spiritual distress, and social isolation.
- Assist patients with needs regarding relaxation, communication, family support, anticipatory grief (patient and family), and life legacy/review interventions.
- Utilize interventions such as relaxation, imagery, lyric analysis, song writing, reminiscence, entrainment, life review, receptive listening, and life legacy projects.
- Observe and report to the clinical supervisor/clinical director and organization personnel the patient's response to treatment and any changes in patient's condition.
- Provide education and awareness to the clinical team regarding appropriateness or contraindications for therapy treatment.
- Maintain necessary records and clinical notes; problem charting and coordination notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record within 24-48 hours of the session and modified as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary group and in-service education programs as needed.
- Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement teams and activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited music therapy program with a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy. Meets personnel qualifications stated in 418.114(b).
- Completion and passing of the National Certification Exam (CBMT) with MT-BC credentials preferred.
- Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured and in good working order.
