Department: Office of Marketing and Communications. Specific Job Title: Full Stack Web Developer. Reports to: Director of Digital Communications. Campus: Queens, NY.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Full Stack Web Developer with extensive experience in both front-end and back-end development to join our innovative team. This hybrid role requires a candidate based in New York City, with the ability to work in the office three days a week. As a senior team member, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining complex, scalable, and user-centric web solutions.

Development & Implementation
- Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure back-end systems using modern frameworks and technologies.
- Develop user-friendly and responsive front-end interfaces, ensuring seamless user experiences across devices.
- Optimize applications for speed, performance, and scalability on both the client and server sides.
- Implement and manage APIs, web services, and third-party integrations.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with account directors, UX designers, and other campus partners to define project requirements and timelines.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high-quality standards and share knowledge.
Maintenance & Innovation
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
- Stay informed about emerging web technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance our systems and processes.
- Ensure compliance with web accessibility (WCAG), security standards, and SEO best practices.
Competencies
- In-depth understanding of web architecture, module development, performance optimization, and responsive design.
- Proficient in Drupal 10 (including Symfony), JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, and Twig templating
- Familiarity with Drush and hosting platform (Acquia)
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset. Able to integrate front-end components with back-end logic
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and testing tools.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment; This position is required to use standard office equipment such as a computer, printer, cellphone, and camera.
Physical Demands
The employee must be able to attend events on and off campus and speak with the attendees for on and off-camera interviews, including nights and weekends.
Environmental Conditions
The primary work environment is a typical office setting within the Office of Marketing & Communications Department.
Position Type / Hours Of Work
This is a hybrid role with 3-4 days on campus required, 1-2 days remote possible.
Travel
Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campus.
Required Education And Experience
10+ years of professional experience in web development with expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies.
Other Duties
Other duties, special projects and assignments as business dictates.
Salary / Pay Transparency
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $92,600 to $108,200. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
Relocation / Location
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
