Overview Sales & Marketing Director

community located at 145 N. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills, IL 60061. The role offers a competitive base salary plus commission, with additional earning opportunities through our President’s Club. We are seeking a sales and marketing professional with a proven track record of generating and closing qualified leads. You will partner with the Executive Director and District Director of Sales to improve occupancy at our 175‑unit community (175 independent living, 47 assisted living, and 36 memory care). Training and support are provided to develop referral sources and bring in new residents.

Compensation and Benefits The base pay is competitive and includes commissions; monthly and quarterly commission opportunities. The role is eligible for a full benefits package; eligibility varies by employment status.

Brookdale offers additional support for veterans, transitioning active duty military personnel, and military spouses. Brookdale may advance naturalization (Form N-400) application costs up to $725, after one year of service and subject to applicable taxes and withholding.

Responsibilities

Maintain and/or improve occupancy and revenue in line with the community’s marketing and business plans; complete sales calls and close sales. Develop and maintain relationships with residents, families, and professional referral sources. Plan, coordinate, and implement monthly prospect and/or referral source activities and events. Partner with Regional Sales management to develop and execute marketing plans to achieve occupancy goals. Supervise at least two FTE Marketing Coordinators and/or Sales Counselors to meet the community marketing and business plan targets.

Close sales by guiding prospective residents and their families through the decision‑making process; respond promptly to inquiries; provide appropriate community and company information.

Utilize sales processes, systems, and forms for external and internal sales; track information, compile data and reports; achieve occupancy goals.

Conduct outside Business Development calls to generate professional leads from sources such as legal/financial professionals, senior organizations, hospital discharge planners, and other local sources.

Develop and maintain relationships with residents, families, and referral sources on a weekly basis; provide information and conduct presentations about services, market advantages, availability, and other relevant information to meet the needs of prospective referral sources and community groups.

Plan, coordinate, and implement monthly prospect and/or referral source activities and events as specified by the marketing plan and leadership; follow up with leads from events and execute sales processes.

Collaborate with Regional Sales management to develop and implement marketing plans; advise on content and delivery of brochures, flyers, press releases, and other media; coordinate with Brookdale Creative Services for advertising materials.

Monitor conversion ratios of Business Development calls to direct referrals; collect and analyze data to prepare weekly and monthly reports; provide performance information to Regional Sales management.

Maintain working knowledge of the lead management system and use it to maximize sales effectiveness.

Supervise the activities of at least two FTEs (Marketing Coordinators/Sales Counselors) to achieve the community marketing and business plan goals.

Qualifications Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of five years of sales experience, preferably in the retirement industry or medical/pharmaceutical sales, with a proven track record of generating and closing a high percentage of qualified leads is required.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

Frequent travel requires a valid driver’s license.

Management/Decision Making Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness, or a combination of these.

Knowledge and Skills

Extensive knowledge of sales and marketing principles and methods; ability to plan, show, promote, and sell services; knowledge of marketing strategy and tactics, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations applicable to the product line; knowledge of state regulations affecting service delivery.

Proficiency with personal computers and software; experience with CRM/lead management systems; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred.

Strong time management; ability to prioritize tasks; ability to build trust and act with integrity; ability to understand customers’ needs; ability to work with diverse personalities; excellent listening and written/verbal communication skills.
