Tacoma Refugee Choir
Overview
Tacoma Refugee Choir is seeking a passionate, organized, and strategic Development and Communications Manager to lead our fundraising and communications efforts. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the long-term sustainability of our organization by developing a diversified fundraising strategy, overseeing marketing and grant writing, and engaging with our diverse community. The ideal candidate is committed to equity and inclusion, and brings experience working with diverse communities and storytelling that resonates across cultures. This position reports directly to the Executive and Artistic Director and will supervise contracted marketing and grant writing professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Fundraising (~40%)
Design and implement a comprehensive, diversified fundraising strategy encompassing individual giving, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, government support, and earned income.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, public agencies, and corporations.
Plan and execute one marquee fundraising event
Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, donor appeals, and stewardship initiatives that reflect the values and mission of the organization
Support and engage the Board of Directors and choir members in fundraising and donor engagement activities.
Collaborate with the Executive & Artistic Director and contracted grant writer to shape compelling, mission-aligned narratives and ensure timely submission of grant proposals and reports.
Maintain and utilize the organization's CRM system to manage donor records, track engagement, and generate reports for strategic planning.
Marketing and Communications (~40%)
Develop and oversee the implementation of a dynamic marketing and communications strategy that builds brand awareness, promotes events, and uplifts the mission and values of Tacoma Refugee Choir.
Supervise and coordinate the work of contracted marketing professionals and designers to ensure alignment with messaging and brand.
Manage content creation and distribution across multiple platforms, including social media, newsletters, print materials, website updates, and press releases.
Collaborate with choir members, partners, and other stakeholders to highlight authentic stories that build community and foster belonging.
Actively engage with the community at public events, performances, and partnership initiatives as a representative of the organization.
Ensure consistent, inclusive, and culturally responsive communication that honors the diversity of our choir and community.
Management and Administration (~20%)
Lead, support, and supervise contracted grant writer and marketing professionals, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, timely deliverables, and budget adherence.
Track progress toward fundraising and marketing goals; report results and metrics to the Executive & Artistic Director and Board as needed.
Assist with budget planning related to development and marketing activities.
Represent Tacoma Refugee Choir as a spokesperson in meetings with funders, partners, public officials, and community members.
Participate in strategic planning and staff meetings, contributing to a collaborative and mission-driven team environment.
Qualifications and Desirable Skills
Proven experience in fundraising, development, or donor relations, preferably in a nonprofit or arts/culture organization.
Strong understanding of marketing principles, social media platforms, and digital content strategy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Experience supervising contractors or small teams and managing cross-functional projects.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Bloomerang, and/or Kindful) and fundraising platforms.
Familiarity with online website management applications (Wix, Squarespace); image editing (Canva or similar)
Experience working with grantwriters and understanding of the grant process is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits Salary: $50,000-$55,000, based on experience
