Overview

Under general supervision from the Communications Manager, the Communications Supervisor performs routine and non-routine tasks in support of Associated Students, Incorporated’s (ASI’s) dynamic communications team. The Communications Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Communication Assistants and provides content for various materials, including the ASI website, marketing materials, stories for ASI publications, media releases, and more. Essential Duties

Writes copy for campaigns, press releases, video scripts, radio ads, flyers, brochures, articles, newsletters, annual reports, external client projects, and other publications Reads, proofs, and edits to detect errors and style discrepancies in written communication and pre-press materials Oversees the day-to-day duties of the Communications Assistants Records and tracks measurable outcomes of the organization’s blog and email marketing efforts Reviews and approves written work prepared by the Communications Assistants Responds to public inquiries on behalf of ASI with guidance from the Communications Manager Prepares agendas, takes notes, and facilitates weekly Communications team meetings Assists with recruitment, onboarding, training, development, scheduling, and time and attendance of the Communications Assistants Assists the Communications Manager with various projects Distributes assignments and manages the projects of the Communications Assistants Reports information provided by ASI departments and the campus community Supports public relations efforts led by the Communications Manager; ensures changes/revisions are properly annotated and typeset material is correct Performs fact-checking duties Collaborates with stakeholders on marketing and communication projects Ensures adherence to the ASI Writing Style Guide, as needed Assists in compiling local media coverage reports and media clips Assists in the development and administration of campaign strategy Provides administrative support Qualifications

Six months of leadership or oversight experience required Experience in journalism and/or public relations preferred Experience with AP Style writing preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Self-motivated with strong organizational and critical thinking skills Demonstrated creative ability Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheets, and other applications Desire to learn about marketing, advertising, and corporate communications Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing Professional work conduct Ability to make independent decisions and provide recommendations Time management skills and ability to work productively without close supervision Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community Application requirement

Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate); international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term. Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend and lift to 45 pounds. Mandated reporting requirement
