Senior Communications Specialist
Position Description: Network Runners is seeking a
Senior Communications Specialist
to support the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Communications Specialist shall assist in developing, updating, and publishing program/organizational materials, design and distribute them for internal and external audiences. Assists in maintaining a vibrant and active social media presence on selected platforms to create a substantial online presence. Assists in maintaining the program and organizational websites so they remain compelling and current. Assists in developing communications plans and manages internal program/organizational communications. Support media relations efforts including development and distribution of story ideas, press releases and media interviews. Assists in responding appropriately to media inquiries which may include developing key talking points for the leadership team and supports writing/tracking/reporting for grants. Provides expertise and guidance on leading strategic communications efforts for OPR, identifying stakeholders, avenues, and methods for communications, and analyzing communications gaps, along with benchmarking of other CBP and federal agency portfolios. Develop reference materials, guidance, and a repository of information regarding strategic communications. Create and publish the OPR quarterly newsletter for posting on the OPR CBP Net page. Draft and creates written content for OPR communications to include leadership messages, news articles, summary of events and initiatives, for both internal and external audiences. Develop and maintains content for OPR’s Office of Assistant Commissioner CBP Collaboration (SharePoint) site for use by OPR employees
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Must have a bachelor’s degree in mass-communications, business, or related field and at least eight (8) years specialized experience; or ten (10) years general experience. Specialized experience must include, at least, three (3) years in communication and analysis experience and two (2) years of specialized experience in supporting the messaging of complex business functions or programs and providing challenging and professional deliverables, products, and services on multiple social media, and communications platforms.
