POSITION LOCATION: Forsythe Elementary School
Hourly Rate: $16.50/hour @ 20 hours per week
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Administrator QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The library clerk is responsible for assisting the librarian in pursuing the mission of the library. Duties may include the following and will vary in frequency: Working as a team under the librarian to carry out the essential mission of the library Welcoming students, teachers, and visitors into the library with a positive and open mind Completing tasks as assigned by the librarian in a timely manner Using technology daily Being able to take directions, as well as working independently Seeking input or ideas from the librarian for improvement of functions when tasks are unclear Answering questions for students and staff regarding library materials and procedures Answering library phone, taking messages, and retrieving messages Assisting students and staff with equipment circulation Assisting students and staff with locating and checking out materials Operating and changing laminator as needed Assisting staff and students with printers/copiers Entering Help Tickets for machine repair or issues Overseeing student sign-in Checking out/in and shelving library materials Updating student digital library records Updating library catalog as requested Preparing library materials for circulation--e.g. reconciling invoices, cataloging, stamping, covering, and labeling books and other items Mending damaged or worn materials and equipment Conducting inventory Conducting shelf reading Decorating bulletin boards and other areas of the library Cleaning computers as needed Cleaning/dusting library bookshelves and tables as necessary Performing other duties as assigned by the librarian, including special projects and events
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL: Love libraries, books, information, and learning Enjoy teens and adolescents and have a desire to help them succeed in school Be excited to work with people from various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ages, and skills Enjoy learning new technologies and be willing to do so as the job requires Have experience working or volunteering in a library and knowledge of standard library functions and procedures (or be a frequent user of a library) Have the ability to switch from task to task and refocus if interrupted Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Demonstrate excellent customer service skills Be able to perform repetitive tasks Exhibit neatness and attention to detail in their work Be able to organize information alphabetically and numerically
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Read and comprehend instructions and correspondence Write simple correspondence Effectively communicate with students, staff and parents
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Everyday math skills needed to tabulate data (student numbers, invoices, inventory, library reports, supply orders, etc.) for library needs as directed by the librarian
REASONING ABILITY: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS: Must be comfortable using a computer as well as operating various programs, such as word processing and spreadsheets, databases, internet browsers, Google Apps and email. Willingness to learn new technologies as the job demands to support student learning (For example: the online library management program, conferencing software, learning management systems).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion to operate computers, laminating machine, paper cutters and other small equipment. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, and reach. The employee must frequently push, pull, or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally push or pull up to 100 pounds, such as computer carts and boxes of books. May be asked to move tables and chairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
