Job Description: Incumbent is a dynamic and innovative Learning Experience Designer that enhances the educational experiences of our students and faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in learning experience design and instructional design, with a specific focus on project-based learning methodologies. This role will involve collaborating with faculty to redesign courses, facilitating training workshops, and developing best practices aimed at improving student retention and engagement. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Learning Resources.
Job Duties
Engages in learner advocacy and is a creative, student-centric designer who is talented in synthesizing and energizing ideas, developing meaningful and impactful learning experiences, and working in an agile course design and development environment with a passion for digitally enhanced learning. Collaborate with faculty cohorts to redesign curriculum and instructional materials, including project-based learning techniques. Assess learner needs and apply those while engaging in curriculum and content development using technology integration. Create high-quality and valid assessment tools, plans, and artifacts to assess learning formatively and summatively. Participate in quality assurance reviews, instructor training, iterative design, and ongoing analysis of course performance. Track and report milestones and communicate at regular intervals. Conduct training sessions and workshops for faculty cohorts and college faculty at large on effective instructional design and best practices. Design, curate, and maintain instructional resources and tools to support faculty in implementing project-based learning and/or other innovative strategies---such as strategic planning for learning initiatives, augmented and virtual reality, adaptive learning, gamification, user experience (UX) design for learning, and mobile solutions---within a centralized repository of best practices. Help faculty create model course shells for courses that incorporate research-based strategies and other innovations based on best practices in course design (e.g., Quality Matters). Conduct thorough analyses of student needs, common challenges, historical course performance, instructor recommendations, and course and program goals to foster continuous improvement. Maintain currency in learning sciences, instructional design principles, and emerging technologies and trends related to higher education, research in instructional design, project-based learning, and student engagement. Conduct observations of faculty, upon request, to provide a diagnostic, help refine their andragogy, and/or improve course design, including an analysis of course shells. Recruit faculty cohorts to participate in instructional design training on project-based learning. Provide ongoing support and feedback to faculty during the implementation of redesigned courses. Create and maintain a repository of instructional design resources and best practices. Identify institutions with model faculty development programs and organize visits to those institutions, if possible, with faculty cohorts. Collaborate with stakeholders across the college including all Schools, all MGCCC locations, administrators, the Enrollment Management and Student Services division, and Institutional Research. Perform duties independently and exercise a high degree of initiative in determining the approach/action to take in routine and non-routine situations. Work flexible hours as needed and complete all tasks assigned in a timely manner. Maintain high professional standards in all work performed. Participate in campus and college events including student orientation, athletics/concerts, and/or other functions. Serve as a public relations representative for the college in the local community. Work constantly to promote a student-centered attitude among all campus employees. Emphasize and incorporate student retention and completion efforts. Provide student advisement and support, as needed. Work with counterparts from other campuses and the district office to ensure consistent administration of college policies and procedures. Assure campus compliance with all college policies and procedures in order to fulfill the one college commitment to students. Attain and maintain knowledge and skills relative to the BANNER administrative software. Serve on the Campus Leadership Team and on assigned college-wide councils and committees. When appointed, represent the campus and/or college at statewide committees or conferences. Upgrade skill level and performance through employee development by completing at least 15 hours of Employee Development training annually, including necessary training for job-related duties. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Master's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Design and Technology, Learning Experience Design, or related field from a higher education organization with institutional accreditation.
(M2) Three or more years of experience in instructional practices and/or instructional design principles including creating measurable learning outcomes and creation of aligned formative and summative assessments.
(M3) Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated effective project management and communication ability including skill in creating project tracking documentation and communicating progress to relevant stakeholders.
(M4) Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems, such as Canvas, project management software, various communication tools, and office productivity software.
(M5) Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional strategies.
(M6) Advanced time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
(M7) Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on digital learning projects.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Doctoral degree in Instructional Design, Learning Design and Technology, Learning Experience Design, or closely related field emphasizing learning principles and instructional strategies from a regionally accredited institution.
(D2) Quality Matters (QM) Certification or certification in instructional design or related field.
(D3) Experience working in a community college environment.
(D4) Experience with educational program development.
