Job Summary and Essential Functions
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Library Director and Library Manager, the part-time Technology Library Assistant plays a vital role in expanding access to digital literacy, hands-on learning, and creative technology to empower our community to learn new skills, express creativity, and pursue workforce or educational opportunities. The Technology Library Assistant performs library work centered around our LABtana technology hub and makerspace, creating and implementing classes, and offers routine IT support to library staff and patrons. They also perform daily library work which requires the application of clerical and skilled techniques to varied library functions. The Assistant may be in charge of the library during evening hours. The Assistant must demonstrate tact, friendliness, and discretion in helping the library's users. The Assistant will be assigned shifts and types of duty according to the needs of the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists patrons with inquiries and use of library equipment, including internet, printers, copy machine, Glowforge Laser cutter, 3D printers, coding robots, Apple laptops, scanner, and fax machine.
Plans and implements library programming for all kids, teens, and adults, based around the library's creative makerspace technology.
Charges and discharges circulation materials and handles overdue notices.
Attends outreach events with Library administration at local schools.
Maintains organization of the library's technology and the LABtana room.
Recommends new technology for the LABtana room.
Keeps abreast of new Technology trends and practices.
Registers new patrons and collects and records payments for non-resident borrowers' cards.
Opens and closes the library, arranges tools and materials for daily use, and monitors the library's physical condition as necessary.
Shelves books, periodicals, and other materials and maintains materials in proper order.
Provides readers' advisory to the public.
Enforces the rules of conduct and maintains order at the library.
Plans and presents library programs and activities.
Keep an inventory of supplies for the circulation area, youth rooms, and technology area.
Applies labels, book covers, barcodes, and other processing tasks.
Maintains various assigned records.
Trains new library volunteers.
Troubleshoots library's catalog software.
Performs related duties as requested by the Library Director or Library Manager.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Town officials, and the general public.
Knowledge and interest in routine IT troubleshooting for public libraries and their software.
Knowledge and interest in maker space technology such as 3D printing, Glow Forge laser cutter, GarageBand, gaming software, or Adobe Creative Suite.
Minimum Requirements and Special Requirements
Candidate must possess a High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of at least one year of higher education or current enrollment in college or university preferred.
Computer literacy (e.g., familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Apple (IOS) operating systems, the internet, tablets, and software applications, including mobile applications).
Experience in a library or other public service position requiring interaction with the public in occasionally stressful situations.
Experience working with youth and teen patrons is preferred.

Holidays - 11 Scheduled Holidays: New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.
Personal Day - One per fiscal year if hired before Sept 1st of that year. Must be used before the end of the calendar year.
Vacation - Vacation hours for new employees will begin to accrue from your first day and can be used after six months of employment.
Vacation Accruals:
1 - 5 years = 10 days
6 - 8 years = 12 days
9 - 15 years = 15 days
16 or more years = 20 days
Bonus Vacation Days - An employee who does not use sick leave hours for six consecutive months is entitled to one bonus vacation day (8 hours). Bonus vacation days are calculated and earned twice a year on a calendar year basis (July 1st and January 1st of each year).
Sick Leave - Sick leave will be accrued at therate of .0462 hours for each hour paid up to (40) paid hours per week, equivalent of (1) 8-hour day a month.
Sick Time Conversion - Non-probationary employees shall be permitted to convert to payment up to 40 hours of sick leave each December. An employee's ability to convert sick hours is reduced by the number of sick hours taken between December 1 and November 30 of the preceding year.
Compensatory Time - All non-exempt employees may accrue compensatory time up to 40 hours. Compensatory time is accrued on the same basis upon which overtime is paid (1 ½) times.
Other Leaves - Family Medical Leave, Bereavement Leave, Jury Duty, Military Leave, and Unpaid Leave.
Supplemental Insurance - Employees are offered a variety of supplemental insurance such as hospital indemnity, accident, and cancer.
Life Insurance/AD&D - Life insurance of $15,000 is provided at no cost to you.
Short Term Disability - Insurance is provided at no cost to you.
Pension Plans - Defined contribution plan (401a) where the Town contributes 7% of your base salary into your pension. Full vesting (100%) after 5 years of employment. Optional deferred compensation pension plan (457b) where an employee may contribute as a before-tax deduction, and the Town will match up to another 2% of your base salary.
Flexible Spending Account - Employees have the ability to set aside, with the pretax dollars, amounts for non-reimbursed medical or dependent care expenses.
Health InsuranceHealth benefits commence the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
These are bi-weekly deductions as an adjustment before tax.
