Principal Responsibilities:Educational Alliance (EA), one of New York City's original settlement houses, was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. Today, EA is a proudly Jewish institution that partners with our neighbors throughout Lower Manhattan. As we have for 130 years, we offer best-in-class programming-now across 15 sitesfocusing on a mix of education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and civic engagement.Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Grant Writer will manage a portfolio of new and existing foundation and come to our center for its high quality and varied programs including arts/culture, early childhood education, camp, and community services government funders that support Educational Alliance's 14th Street Y. Located in Manhattan's vibrant East Village, Educational Alliance's 14th Street Y (14Y) is downtown Manhattan's Jewish Community Center. We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment to downtown New York's entire community, with Jewish values and content woven throughout our programs. Each year tens of thousands of New Yorkers of all ages, races and ethnicities.As the Grant Writer, you will be responsible for leading and managing the process of developing letters of inquiry and writing narrative grant proposals and reports to a range of current and prospective private foundations and government agencies. You will work closely with program staff to develop high quality programs that meet the needs of our community; partner with finance to develop budgets, budget narratives, and financial reports; and collaborate with Research and Evaluation to analyze program data and outcomes for use in communication with funders. Finally, you will manage grants and contracts from pre-proposal through award, reporting, and closeout. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFundraisingLead the preparation of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and narrative reports for a variety of funders - tailoring your writing to suit major institutional foundations, government agencies, small family foundations, and in some instances individual donors.Analyze Request for Proposals (RFP), prepare written RFP summaries for program staff, and lead meetings with program staff to discuss RFPs that are up for consideration.Perform prospect research to support existing and new programs and create or update funder profiles and briefing materials, as necessary.Identify new prospective institutional donors and support the development of strategies to approach funders.Cultivate/maintain relationships/correspondence with funders.Plan and manage site visits for prospective and existing funders - prepare leadership team to meet with funders.Use a variety of sources to describe Educational Alliance's programs using culturally competent language that reflects the communities we serve.Develop a strong working knowledge of the research and literature informing the programmatic fields in your portfolio.Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the team and agency as a whole.Project Management and Data TrackingProvide project management, ensuring that project stakeholders have reviewed and provided feedback on proposals in a timely manner, and obtaining final approval.Take ownership of a portfolio of Educational Alliance/14Y programs - managing funder priorities and all contractual reporting requirements.Collaborate with finance staff to produce proposal budgets and expense reports for all institutional funders in your portfolio.Document and acknowledge all solicitations and gifts using appropriate department procedures.JOB QUALIFICATIONSBA or BS degree preferred.1-2 years' experience working for a nonprofit in either development/fundraising, communications, or project management.Strong writing and editing skills.Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Computer literacy, including with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs, as well as Teams and Zoom.Ability to work collaboratively with staff that have different backgrounds, experiences, and competencies.Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to prioritize deadlines.BENEFITSGenerous PTO PolicyCompetitive SalaryMedical, Dental & Vision InsurancePension Plan403b Retirement PlansDiscount Perks for Movies, Broadway Shows, Amusement Parks, etc.Free Gym Membership to our Manny Cantor Center Gym & 14TH ST Y GymDiscounts to programs at Educational AllianceTuition ReimbursementEmployee Referral RewardMinimum Qualifications:Please note that only applications with a cover letter and resume will be consideredJOB QUALIFICATIONSBA or BS degree preferred.1-2 years' experience working for a nonprofit in either development/fundraising, communications, or project management.Strong writing and editing skills.Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Computer literacy, including with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs, as well as Teams and Zoom.Ability to work collaboratively with staff that have different backgrounds, experiences, and competencies.Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to prioritize deadlines.Salary:$60K to $70K Agency Information: A nonprofit beacon of hope for over 130 years, as a historically Jewish organization Educational Alliance believes in the power of communities to lift up people of all ages and turn strangers into neighbors.
