Job Description
Skilled Audio Technicians assist full-time UFPA crew and rental/touring personnel in the operation of sound systems, load-in, set-up, strike, load-out of various theatrical productions, work calls, and non-theatrical events. Position requires the ability and willingness to also work in different areas of specialization regularly.
Work in close cooperation and communication with Technical Supervisors on the coordination of technical requirements of various events.
Assist in the production of live events utilizing various digital audio consoles, wired and wireless microphones, stage monitors, IEM systems, audio playback software, equipment transport, equipment set-up, communication with performers, and communication with tour technical crew.
Assist Technical Supervisors with the inventory, maintenance, and repair of all technical equipment, including assisting in cable testing, cable building, cable repair, and speaker testing.
Maintain a safe working environment at all times by following all established safety policies.
Expected Salary
$16.00 to $21.00 commensurate with experience
Minimum Requirements
General working knowledge of audio equipment and procedures used in live show production. Knowledge of instrument types (Snare Drum, Acoustic Guitar, Cello, Keyboard, etc.). Must maintain a calm and professional demeanor in interactions with guests, coworkers, and client users of facility. Capacity and willingness for strenuous manual labor with industry standard equipment and materials. The ability to work as a team under stress with a fast pace and under intense schedule pressure. Ability to work evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and on short notice. Can complete tasks without supervision. Strong attention to detail and the ability to focus on a task for hours at a time. Ability to be punctual to all work shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with live audio production in facilities of similar type and size
- Can be called upon to provide training and supervision of Part-Time OPS Stagehand crew
- Understands components of a sound system, how they connect, and function
- Understands audio signal flow
- Has experience with live music performance
- Understanding of basic and advanced functions of digital audio consoles
- Experience running multiple monitor mixes
- Knowledge of microphone types, models, and placement
- Understands the use of EQ to reduce feedback
- Understands the use of effects and dynamics processing
- Has knowledge of Qlab playback software
- Can follow a stage plot and input list to place monitors, mic stands, mics, stage power, etc., and patch mics in correct order to snake and sub snakes
- Can follow a list to gather equipment from storage locations needed for a performance
Special Instructions To Applicants
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Schedule is highly variable and depends on calendar of events. Hours of work can include daytime, nights, and weekends. Work subject to be maintenance, planning, preparation, technical installation/removal, rehearsals, and/or performances.
