Overview
As a Creative Director, you will supervise the creation and development of strategically-driven, multi-channel direct response concepts and creative—both copy and design—that communicate our nonprofit client’s fundraising and marketing objectives. This role directs a creative team and produces compelling and strategy-driven direct mail and digital copy for fundraising campaigns. The position requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, copywriting expertise, and leadership, with a strong sense of empathy and passion for the cause. This is a hybrid role out of our office in Lanham, MD.

Your Impact
- Responsible for the development of all copy and design for nonprofit client fundraising campaigns and industry-related projects.
- Develop and deliver new print and digital direct response fundraising creative and test strategies and concepts that meet client objectives and goals.
- Work closely with client services and creative teams to review, evaluate, and plan clients’ multi-channel fundraising campaigns strategies and tactics.
- Contribute significantly to proposals for current and prospective clients with the new business development team.
- Participate in all phases of client program development — planning, messaging, design, integration, implementation, management, and reporting.
- Supervise and train creative staff in fundraising copy and design best practices, emphasizing attention to detail, copywriting excellence, and audience empathy.
- Motivate team members to achieve business objectives, including hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, training, development, and mentoring.
- Identify and act on departmental training needs, encouraging staff to seek growth opportunities.
- Provide support to the team through skill development, results analysis, and feedback to enhance their ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Monitor and manage team activity to ensure timely delivery of work.
- Collaborate with Art Directors and Copywriters to develop new concepts for direct mail and multi-channel campaigns.
- Develop and deliver clear, concise, and compelling direct mail and digital copy for nonprofit organizations.
- Review campaign results and apply learning to improve future campaigns using analytical skills.
- Reflect the “voice and visual brand” of a variety of clients in different verticals.
- Apply empathy and strategic thinking to create compelling and relatable campaigns.
- Adapt quickly to changing circumstances and pivot strategies as needed to achieve fundraising goals.
Your Profile
- 10+ years of management-level experience fundraising in an agency creative department required.
- 10+ years of experience producing effective direct response fundraising copy in an agency environment required.
- Four-year degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Design, or Liberal Arts preferred.
- Proven copywriting skills with the ability to craft persuasive, mission-aligned messaging.
- Experience directing data-driven creative fundraising strategies and tactics for multi-channel print and digital campaigns.
- Strong understanding of direct response fundraising strategic and tactical communications practices.
- Creative and strategic thinker with a passion for storytelling and audience engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and inspire action.
- Proficient in analyzing campaign performance and applying analytical insights to optimize results.
- Effective leader who inspires and develops talent while fostering a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Skilled in project management, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines with precision.
- Highly adaptable, able to pivot strategies in response to evolving client needs or marketing conditions.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure quality and consistency across all creative outputs.
- Effective and compelling presentation skills in person and virtually.
- Organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently and on teams while managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Copilot, or similar AI writing technology required.
- Familiarity with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Premier Pro, HTML5, Flash, and XD.
