Creative Director

Member's Mark, Sam's Club's exclusive private brand, is on a journey to elevate how millions of members experience our products every day. We are seeking a Creative Director with deep expertise in packaging and brand storytelling to lead the development of packaging systems, brand photography, and visual design across a diverse portfolio of categories. This is not a generalist Creative Director role. The right candidate will bring proven experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) and/or private brand packaging, with a strong ability to shape how design drives brand preference on-shelf and in the cart.

Packaging Leadership

Lead packaging design strategy across Member's Mark categories, balancing brand consistency with category-specific differentiation.

Drive the development of scalable design systems that deliver clarity, appetite appeal, and retail impact.

Oversee all packaging creative from concept through production, ensuring designs meet brand, business, and regulatory standards.

Creative Direction & Brand Building

Partner with cross-functional teams (merchandising, marketing, product development, legal, etc.) to bring the brand to life across packaging, photography, and in-club experiences.

Provide creative leadership for brand photography ensuring imagery elevates storytelling, appetite appeal, and differentiation.

Guide and mentor internal designers, agencies, and production partners to deliver best-in-class creative.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

Manage and inspire a team of art directors, designers, and agency partners.

Champion design excellence and raise the creative bar across every Member's Mark touchpoint.

Advocate for the role of design as a business driver, not just an executional function.

What You'll Bring

10+ years of experience in design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Mandatory: Strong background in packaging design private brand, CPG, or both. (Applications without packaging experience will not be considered.)

Proven success managing large-scale packaging portfolios across multiple categories.

Ability to balance creativity with commercial and operational realities (cost, sustainability, print production, compliance).

Strong portfolio showcasing packaging systems, visual identity, and brand photography direction.

Exceptional leadership skills with experience guiding both internal and external creative teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Design, Marketing, Creative Writing, Advertising, Fine Arts, or related field and 7 years' experience leading creative teams OR 9 years' experience leading creative teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Managing Brand Initiatives for Product Launches, Managing Budgets, Including Budget Forecasting and Reporting Financials, Managing cross-functional teams in a retail creative environment, Managing large scale interactive campaigns in an online creative or related digital field, Managing Vendor Contracts and Relationships, Working for or with creative agencies
