Job Overview

The Librarian I (Web Services) at Texas Christian University is responsible for creating and maintaining library websites and applications, assisting with upgrades and enhancements of online systems, assisting other library staff with creating accessible online content, and creating and troubleshooting integrations between various 3rd party library software products. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with web development experience and a passion for libraries to make a meaningful impact through innovative, user-focused digital services. The work schedule for this role is from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains accessible public and staff websites using local files and scripts and 3rd party content management systems.
  • Trains and assists library staff with development and maintenance of web content. Consults with staff on special projects as requested.
  • Develops and maintains solutions to support faculty and student activities such as online journal publishing, research data management, and web exhibits.
  • Evaluates library online interfaces for usability and WCAG accessibility standards compliance.
  • Monitors developments in the field by participating in professional organizations and training opportunities; keeps other library staff informed of important technology issues; suggests enhancements to other library services as appropriate.
  • Assists library staff with creating and troubleshooting integrations between various library software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management Information Systems) or equivalent, or Masters of Library Science (ALA accredited).
  • 0-1 year experience in a library environment

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with open-source software development and troubleshooting.
  • Experience creating database-driven applications using programming/scripting languages.
  • Experience managing Windows and/or Linux servers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Web development techniques, including an understanding of HTML, CSS, Javascript and user interface frameworks such as Bootstrap.
  • Ability to apply deductive reasoning skills in troubleshooting computer software.
  • Knowledge of using SQL to query and update relational databases.
  • Understanding of web site usability and accessibility principles and testing.
  • Ability to write clear documentation for library staff and end-users.
  • Ability to perform software conversions and upgrades.
  • Ability to apply customer service techniques.

Work Environment

  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
  • This role is an on campus, in-person position.
