Media Assistant (Library) role at Grand Blanc Community Schools.

Responsibilities
- Provide instruction to students and staff in the use of print and electronic reference tools and information literacy processes.
- Assist students in strategies for intellectual access to information and ideas for learning.
- Provide information and instruction in areas of information literacy, research, acceptable use policy, intellectual property and copyright and the use of educational technologies.
- Promote integrated use of technology as a learning tool.
- Promote student reading for information and pleasure.
- Reinforce strategy-based reading instruction.
- Create and implement procedures for media center operations.
- Develop and maintain a diversified media center collection of print, non-print and electronic resources.
- Schedule media facilities for instruction and supervising student use.
Depending on building size, the Media Assistant may be asked to support building needs in the following areas:
- Morning arrival supervision & support
- Dismissal supervision & support
- Lunch supervision & support
- 1:1 student academic plan support
- Small group academic interventions (MTSS determined)
- Large group academic MTSS support (ie: on/above level options)
- Offering a quiet/calming space to students based on MTSS needs
- Support of student breaks, heavy work, sensory walks (if available)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years post secondary education, required.
- Knowledge of computer programs (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing).
- Knowledge of telecommunications (electronic mail, automated library circulation, Internet).
- Understand and maintain confidentiality, professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, parents and the community.
- Possess, in the judgment of the administration, personal qualifications to perform such duties including ability to:
- Work with staff and the general public in a professional and appropriate manner;
- Comprehend and maintain detailed information;
- Make independent judgments in accordance with school/program procedures and policies;
- Display loyalty and integrity.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
