Overview

The Town of Yarmouth, MA, is seeking a year-round part-time library assistant for Youth Services at South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth Libraries. Candidate must be reliable, flexible, have computer knowledge, and excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist at the front desk, including checking materials in and out.
  • Answer phones; assist with requesting materials for library users; maintain positive communication with the public and other library tasks; provide ready reference and readers' advisory.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs and stand for lengthy periods of time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and one or more years of relevant experience within a public library system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High comfort level with computers and a variety of reference resources, as well as a reputation for superior customer service.
  • Experience working with young people is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with people of all ages, including volunteers, community partners, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail. Must enjoy learning and have a helpful, friendly disposition.
