Instruct elementary school students (Grades Pre-K - 5) in instrumental or vocal music as part of the Bilingual Education program for Mandarin-speaking students who are English language learners, including providing bilingual content area instruction.

Responsibilities

• Plan daily classroom work based on the teaching outline to meet curriculum requirements.
• Evaluate students' interests, aptitudes, temperament, and individual characteristics to determine suitable instruments for beginners.
• Demonstrate musical scales, tones, rhythm, and music theory; instruct students in harmony, sight-reading, composition, music appreciation, and provide individual or group vocal and instrumental lessons using appropriate teaching techniques.
• Conduct group rehearsals and coach members in fundamentals of musicianship and ensemble performance.
• Critique performances to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
• Lead orchestra and choral groups in regular and special performances for school programs, community activities, concerts, and festivals.
• Meet with parents of students to resolve student problems.
• May accompany students on field trips to musical performances and assist with ordering, storing, and inventory of instruments, music, and supplies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Music, or a related field.
• New York State Teaching Certification in Music.
• New York State Bilingual Education Extension Certification in Mandarin.

Compensation and Location

Salary range: $66,733 to $88,536 per year.

Locations: Brooklyn or Bronx, NY within the New York City Public School system (NYC Department of Education jurisdiction).
