Overview

Executive News Producer - WXIX at Gray Media leads the morning news team to produce engaging, impactful newscasts. Works with news and station management to achieve content and ratings goals. Exercises strong news judgment, reviews newscast rundowns, and approves scripts with an eye toward accuracy and promotable content. Collaborates with producers on rundowns, story selection, formats, graphics, and pace; partners with multimedia reporters/photographers to shape story direction. May fill in as line producer during vacation or illness.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the consistent creation of urgent, relevant, impactful newscasts
• Lead and actively participate in editorial discussions, review rundowns and scripts, and develop coverage plans
• Demonstrate vision for the execution of the First Alert Weather brand
• Collaborate with the news leadership team to execute an effective content strategy
• Keep producers engaged through consistent, constructive feedback and training
• Oversee live on-air product during designated hours
• Manage producer schedules and show assignments
• Produce newscasts as needed (fill-in)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
• Minimum 5 years of line producing experience; medium to large market experience preferred
• Minimum of 2 years in a news leadership role
• Excellent news judgment, organizational, time management, and communication skills
• Scheduling flexibility required
• Must provide a link to examples of recent work that demonstrate the required skills listed above
