Position Overview

The Student Photographer/Documentation Assistant supports the Visual Arts program by photographing and documenting student artwork for archival, exhibition, and promotional purposes. This position requires technical skill in capturing high-quality images of both 2-D and 3-D work, as well as proficiency in digital editing and record management. The role involves close collaboration with students to ensure their work is accurately represented and requires flexibility to meet diverse project needs and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • 30% – Photography and Documentation: Photograph and accurately document student artwork, ensuring appropriate lighting and composition for both 2-D and 3-D pieces.
  • 30% – Student Collaboration: Work directly with students to schedule and capture required images of their artwork, providing guidance and support throughout the process.
  • 20% – Image Editing and Post-Production: Edit and enhance images using Adobe Photoshop to ensure consistency, accuracy, and readiness for exhibition or publication.
  • 10% – Digital Records Management: Assist in organizing, labeling, and maintaining digital archives of student artwork for easy access and long-term storage.
  • 10% – Image Quality Assurance: Capture and deliver high-quality images that meet professional standards for clarity, accuracy, and presentation.

Required Qualifications

  1. Experience in digital photography, including image capture and editing, as indicated in application materials.
  2. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, with the ability to perform advanced image adjustments and enhancements as indicated in application materials.
  3. Skilled in documenting both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) artwork with attention to detail and accuracy, as indicated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Eligible for Federal Work-Study through the financial aid office.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
