Distinguished Engineer - Radio Access Network Planning at Verizon.
This role focuses on Spectrum Strategy and RAN Capacity Planning, guiding long-term spectrum and capacity decisions for Verizon's RAN, including 5G and future technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical lead for Verizon RAN Planning.
- Complete detailed analysis and recommendations for Verizon's RAN including 5G and 6G, Spectrum Management decisions, and regulatory framework decisions.
- Perform radio wave propagation, signal loss models, interference analysis, and the ability to perform detailed link budget calculations for various radio technologies and deployment scenarios.
- Interpret and analyze FCC rules, regulations, and public notices related to spectrum and engage with regulatory bodies and understand the policy-making process.
- Interface with internal teams such as device, network planning, territory, planning, and the field to develop and distribute guidance to national market teams.
- Forecast device and network utilization trends and how those trends impact RAN capacity.
- Conduct long-term spectrum planning analysis aligned to Verizon's business objectives and customer experience.
- Stay abreast of key industry trends, such as the evolution of mobile technologies, increased data demand, IoT and private networks, and new spectrum sharing techniques, to support proactive spectrum planning.
- Develop guidance on gauging network capacity year over year while accounting for technology improvements in 3GPP specifications, device makeup of the Verizon network, RF coverage and link budgets, and the customer experience.
- Conduct analytics and automation that enable consistent, actionable guidance and modeling across multiple business units.
- Perform geospatial analysis for solutions spanning large geographic areas with location-specific attributes.
- Analyze major network infrastructure decisions for Radio Access Planning.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
- Proficiency in RF Propagation Modeling Tools.
- Experience in RAN Capacity Planning and RF Fundamentals.
Even better if you have
- A Masters Degree or PhD degree in STEM.
- Extensive knowledge of current and emerging radio access technologies (e.g., LTE, 5G NR, future generations), radio hardware characteristics, and their impact on network performance and spectrum utilization.
- Ability to build cross-functional partnerships at multiple levels within the company.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences, including regulatory bodies, legal counsel, business leaders, and technical teams.
- A comprehensive grasp of spectrum allocation, licensing, and regulatory frameworks, including knowledge of domestic (FCC) and potentially international spectrum policies.
- A strong understanding of 3GPP standards and their evolution, including familiarity with the technical specifications related to radio interfaces, spectrum bands, and features for current technologies (LTE, 5G NR) and future generations (e.g., 6G).
- Strong organizational skills.
Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum of eight assigned office days per month as determined by your manager.

The salary range varies by location and experience. This is an incentive-based position with the potential to earn more. For full-time roles, the annual salary range is: $124,000.00 - $238,000.00. For Illinois locations, the annual salary range is: $136,500.00 - $238,000.00.
