Department Summary
The Center for Advanced Materials Characterization in Oregon (CAMCOR) is a full service, comprehensive materials characterization center housed in the Lorry I. Lokey Laboratories at the University of Oregon. CAMCOR hosts capital-intensive equipment for microanalysis, surface analysis, electron microscopy, semiconductor device fabrication, and traditional chemical characterization. Run by dedicated and professional directors who are highly trained and experienced in their fields, CAMCOR can provide technical and professional expertise to solve any of your problems and meet deadlines.
Position Summary
The Focused Ion Beam-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FIB-SEM) Lab Manager is involved in all activity within the FIB-SEM facility at the Center for Advanced Material Characterization in Oregon (CAMCOR). This includes providing professional technical management and services to support shared equipment in the CAMCOR laboratories; user training and technical support on SEM, FIB-SEM, and related equipment; overseeing instrument upgrades and maintenance; developing course curriculum and teaching of laboratory components; providing analytical services for internal and external clients; and maintaining and conducting facility tours and demonstrations.
Additional Expectations Of The Position
- This position must be able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to fulfill special projects and events.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering, or related field; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Two years of work experience in a technical field in an academic or industrial setting.
- Two years of hands-on materials characterization experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering, or a related physical science or engineering discipline.
- At least four years of hands-on materials characterization experience using FIB and SEM.
- High-confidence in ability to prepare HR-TEM samples.
- At least two years of facility management and user training experience.
- Proficient in SEM and FIB operation including imaging, microanalysis, and sample preparation.
- Familiarity with ThermoScientific/FEI user interfaces for SEM and FIB instrumentation.
- Familiarity with both dual beam and plasma FIB instruments.
- Experience working with multiple sample types (i.e. semiconductors, geological samples, polymers, etc.).
- Strong theoretical knowledge of materials characterization techniques and their application.
- Technical proficiency in applying complex research instrumentation to solve research problems.
