Overview

Staff Hardware Engineer, Radio Frequency (Contract) at CARIAD, an automotive software development team with the Volkswagen Group. The role focuses on development, testing, and optimization of RF systems and circuits within CARIAD’s Hardware Platform Development team to ensure high-performance wireless communication and signal integrity in hardware products. Role Responsibilities

RF Design & Development: Design, simulate, and optimize RF circuits, antennas, and transmission lines for high-frequency applications; select, tune, and integrate antennas to ensure optimal wireless performance and signal integrity; support PCB design for RF applications and high-frequency layout best practices; develop RF system architectures with attention to noise reduction, impedance matching, and power efficiency; assist in supplier evaluation of RF components for manufacturability and standards compliance; collaborate with hardware engineers and firmware developers to integrate RF functionality into system designs. Testing & Validation: Conduct RF measurements and performance evaluations using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators; diagnose and troubleshoot RF hardware issues including signal integrity and interference; support EMI/EMC compliance testing and mitigation to meet regulatory standards (FCC, CE); develop and execute RF test plans for reliability under real-world conditions; document design decisions, test results, and RF performance reports. Required Specialized Skills

Proficiency with RF test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators); strong understanding of RF circuit design, impedance matching, and transmission line theory; Experience in PCB design for RF applications with high-frequency layout best practices; Familiarity with wireless standards (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, 5G); knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques for RF systems; Understanding of embedded system software architecture, RTOS, and interfacing with web frameworks and connected HPC software components; knowledge of connected vehicle infotainment and communication software systems; Programming languages: C, C++, Java, HTML5, and scripting languages. Desired Skills

Experience with RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST or similar); knowledge of LNAs, PAs, and RF filters; Experience in automated RF testing and scripting (Python, MATLAB); background in automotive, aerospace, or IoT RF applications. Workplace Flexibility

8+ years of RF design, testing, and validation experience. Education

Required: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field. Desired: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field. Compensation & Location

Contract W2 position. Based in Mountain View, CA. Local candidates only; no relocation. Immediate availability required; start promptly upon offer acceptance and pending background check and drug screening. Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future. Not eligible for C2C, 1099, or third-party agency submissions.
