Overview Interactive Communications Officer (Staff Assistant) — On-Call/Part-Time/At-Will for the City of Torrance. This role involves disseminating time-sensitive information to the public during normal operations and emergencies, coordinating interactive communications for city departments, and supporting the City’s communication channels.

Responsibilities

Disseminate time-sensitive information to the public during disasters or emergencies and maintain the Disaster Telephone Hotline.

Manage street and road closure messaging on CitiSOUNDS AM 1620 radio.

Post, monitor, and create content for the City's official website and social media.

Create graphic design elements for social media and print; support accessibility compliance; provide ongoing social media engagement.

Create and edit eNewsletters; serve as account manager for departments for interactive communications; perform related work as required.

Distribute information to the community through appropriate channels and coordinate communications under the Office of Cable and Community Relations.

Hours: On-call/part-time shifts as needed, with 2 to 12 hours per shift; no guaranteed hours; shifts may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, late nights, weekends, or holidays; normal shifts are 12 hours (8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.), and ICOs must remain on premises during paid lunch hours.

Qualifications

Education and experience :

Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of highly responsible executive support and/or administrative work in a public agency; or

An Associate's degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field and two years of related experience; or

A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.

Licenses : Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

Competencies :

Outstanding copywriting, social media, or video production skills.

Ability to work effectively without oversight.

Confident written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

High degree of computer literacy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Experience creating high-quality marketing content.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and understand impactful marketing tactics.

Experience developing visual designs and marketing materials.
