Overview
JK Executive Strategies is partnering with a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare to recruit a Vice President of Development and Communications. The organization has been helping animals and people since 1873, working to better the lives of animals through justice, prevention, and life-saving care. It serves thousands of animals each year and connects pet owners with resources to keep their pets healthy.
The Vice President will lead research, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all fundraising and marketing/communications activities to build awareness of the organization’s vision, values, programs, services, and achievements. In alignment with the strategic plan, the VP will set strategic direction, oversee tactics, and secure public support for the mission.
Responsibilities
Leadership
— Leads and mentors the development and communications teams, ensuring effective performance, timely updates, and alignment with organizational goals. Maintains open lines of communication with stakeholders, coaches direct reports, and fosters an inclusive environment. Manages cross-functional projects on time and on budget, and supports organizational risk management and strategic decision-making. Serves as a role model for the organization’s core values.
Development & Communications
— Develops annual plans, budgets, and logic models for development and communications; works with the President/CEO, Board, staff, and volunteers to implement the strategic plan and grow donor support; oversees marketing/communications pieces and donors’ visibility; represents the organization publicly; coordinates events, campaigns, and community outreach; ensures consistent branding and messaging across programs and sites; maintains records on gifts and donors; upholds donor confidentiality and ethics; ensures legal compliance.
Other responsibilities include planning and execution of adoption programs and promotions with relevant directors, collaborating for consistent branding, and engaging the community through major gifts, grants, corporate solicitations, and special events.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
10+ years of experience in a nonprofit setting with proven success in development and communications; leadership experience strongly preferred.
CFRE and/or CAWA certifications a plus.
Demonstrated initiative to lead at a higher level, focusing on growth opportunities.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication and diplomacy when engaging the public, staff, and volunteers; donor relations experience.
Public relations and media experience desirable; ability to handle interviews.
Ability to manage conflict and adapt to changing priorities; capable of building long-term donor relationships.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge (development software) and Adobe Creative Suite preferred; proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Salary Salary Range: $115k+
