Overview The CMF Designer plays a key role in connecting design, quality, engineering, and supplier teams to ensure precise execution of Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) strategies. This role involves critical coordination, hands-on support, and proactive problem-solving to maintain timelines, resolve issues, and uphold the highest quality standards. It requires a blend of creative vision and technical precision to develop CMF concepts that enhance product aesthetics, functionality, and user experience.

Responsibilities

Lead CMF Development:

Support early-stage CMF concept creation, collaborating with designers and suppliers to ensure alignment with design intent.

Sample Coordination:

Organize, track, and distribute CMF mastering samples, establish efficient in-house distribution systems, and manage inventory logs.

Proactive Issue Resolution:

Identify process gaps, flag discrepancies, and implement solutions to keep projects on track.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner with designers, engineers, and leadership to ensure smooth coordination and shared understanding of goals.

Process Optimization:

Evaluate CMF-related data and contribute to best practices that enhance development efficiency and quality.

Clear Communication:

Maintain transparent updates on project progress, keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in CMF Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Design Quality, Product Development, or related field—or equivalent experience.

4–6 years of experience in automotive CMF, program management, or coordination, with expertise in materials, finishes, and related processes.

Strong color acuity, capable of accurately assessing and differentiating colors (able to pass Munsell Hue Color Test).

Hands-on experience with CMF development, material evaluations, supplier coordination, and mastering processes.

Proven ability to identify issues, take initiative, and drive solutions.

Knowledge of CMF development timing and color matching/mastering processes for production accuracy and consistency.

Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.

Project management experience with complex, cross-departmental deliverables.

Detail-oriented, with a focus on material quality, color accuracy, texture, and aesthetics.

Interest in emerging materials, finishes, and industry trends to elevate design standards.
