Vice President, Audience Analytics at Hearst — responsible for blending advanced data science with consumer insights to drive business impact across enterprise-level marketing and advertising. Reporting to the SVP of Data Product Development, this role leads and develops a high-performing, cross-functional team that combines analytics, research, and data science to unlock a deep understanding of audience behavior and engagement. This role is based in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of data-driven audience strategies that serve both enterprise-level Marketing and Ad Sales objectives.
  • Manage and grow a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, analysts, and researchers, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and accountability.
  • Build and deploy machine learning models for persona development, segmentation, and behavioral prediction.
  • Activate audience insights across departments, partnering with business unit Marketing, Product, and Ad Sales teams to drive personalization, targeting, and performance measurement.
  • Oversee the integration of diverse data sources—including first-party, third-party, and behavioral data—to create a unified audience view.
  • Translate complex analytical and cultural insights into clear narratives and actionable business recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Identify enterprise-level whitespace opportunities and design research projects that inform content ideation, competitive strategy, and creative direction.

Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years of experience in data science or audience analytics, with some consumer research experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience applying advanced analytics and machine learning models to segment audiences and build predictive frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of both B2C Marketing and Ad Sales environments, with the ability to influence across business units.
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills; able to synthesize data and cultural signals into compelling strategic narratives.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and large-scale insight initiatives.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Python, R, SQL, and cloud platforms like AWS or BigQuery.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Marketing Analytics).

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate for New York City is $260,000 to $350,000. If the role is open to candidates outside New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final starting salary will be based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and education.
