NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene . Responsibilities Meticulously review and copyedit agency written communications and print graphics with great attention to detail. Work with Design team to develop graphics for print materials. Review Creative Communications graphics and materials before production through printshop and print vendors. Work with the Assistant Managing Editor and Creative Communications leadership to review and proofread; revise content for precision, clarity, and technical and structural accuracy. Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Advance the Health Department's mission and strategic plan by generating relevant, accessible, and high-quality written content, ensuring that tone, language, and graphics are accessible, straightforward, and consistent across mediums. Work with internal subject matter experts to write public-facing materials about important health issues for various audiences. Fact-check content and create, edit, and suggest references as needed. Copyedit and proofread references and citations in AMA Style. Lead discussions on editorial style and decide, in partnership with the Executive Director of Creative Communications and Director of Content and Copy, on any changes or additions to the Agency Style Guide. Implement and codify updates to the style guide and train team members on agency plain language best practices. Perform design work in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and InDesign. Ensure materials adhere to agency accessibility guidelines for font, font size, and color contrast. Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the Creative Communications team (Marketing, Digital Communications, Language Services, and Design) as projects call for interaction and support. Support emergency response communications as needed.
Qualifications
Highly skilled in copyediting with meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrate knowledge of writing, storytelling, and strategic, creative, and critical thinking. Clear and exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex messages through clear and simple design to highly diverse New York City audiences. Self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, tasks, and timelines. Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with colleagues, direct reports, leadership, and stakeholders.
