Architects and engineers collaborate to create enduring solutions in the built environment. The Director of Design is a key leadership role that shapes the vision of architectural excellence. This role blends creative leadership with strategic business acumen, driving innovation, elevating our design culture, mentoring emerging talent, and delivering results aligned with client expectations and budgetary goals. The Director leads the process of creating and developing fundamental design principles to guide a project from conception through completion, upholding design standards and ensuring consistent, high‑quality output across all projects. This role provides direction during project development, monitors design staff for quality and compliance, and collaborates across departments on strategic design initiatives to strengthen CHA’s market presence and support business development with innovative design strategies. It also involves developing and maintaining strong client relationships to drive business expansion and identifying and developing emerging design talent and staff. Responsibilities

Lead the process of creating and implementing fundamental design principles from conception to completion, upholding design standards and ensuring high-quality output across projects. Develop work plans for the design process and provide direction throughout project development. Monitor design support staff to ensure design quality and plan compliance. Provide internal, cross-departmental leadership and collaborate on strategic design initiatives to enhance CHA’s market presence and support business development. Build and maintain strong client relationships to drive business expansion. Identify and develop emerging design talent and staff; mentor junior team members. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture is required; Master’s degree in Architecture preferred Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience required Licensed Architect is required LEED accreditation is required Extensive knowledge of Architectural Design Ability to demonstrate exceptional creativity, foresight, and mature architectural judgment Outstanding graphic presentation and communication skills Ability to clearly communicate design intent to clients, consultants, and staff Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to empower junior staff Expertise in design documentation, building materials/systems, and construction methods Passionate about trends in architectural design and practical application Experience in PK-12 education, higher education, corporate/commercial, or community market segments Willingness to participate in business development, marketing, and client presentations Salary

Salary Range $165,000 - $200,000 Salary is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Culture / EEO Statement
