POSITION SUMMARY:
The AMA YMCA is seeking a passionate and experienced Dance Studio Director to lead the growth of our dance program at the Central YMCA Youth Program Center. This role combines leadership, creativity, and teaching, with responsibility for expanding our program offerings, recruiting and mentoring instructors, and delivering high-quality classes that inspire confidence and artistry in our youth.


The Dance Studio Director will design and oversee the program’s vision, manage day-to-day operations, and actively teach dance classes. From choreographing routines and coordinating performances to developing competitive opportunities, this role is perfect for a visionary leader who thrives on building programs, supporting instructors, and making dance accessible and inspiring for all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Build and oversee the YMCA Dance Program, including recreational and competitive pathways.
  • Recruit, hire, and mentor a team of qualified dance instructors across multiple styles.
  • Plan, organize, and choreograph performances, showcases, and competition routines.
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for students to participate in local and regional competitions.
  • Teach weekly dance classes with a focus on skill development, creativity, and performance.
  • Develop class schedules, curriculum, and seasonal program offerings.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to instructors, fostering a positive, collaborative environment.
  • Communicate with parents and participants regarding progress, performance opportunities, and program updates.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized studio spaces and ensure equipment is properly cared for.
  • Uphold YMCA core values in all interactions and model relationship-building skills with staff, participants, and families.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the program.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Proven experience in choreography and program development in a dance studio or equivalent setting.
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of instructors and building strong dance programs.
  • Experience coordinating performances and competitions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate dance techniques across multiple styles.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education in dance or performing arts preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lead classes, demonstrate dance skills, and actively participate in choreography.
  • Must be able to move and transport equipment (mats, props, etc.) as needed.
  • Extended periods of standing and movement while instructing.
