Why this role exists
OneAway Studios is building a content engine. We need a filmmaker/editor with heart—someone who cares about the work, moves fast, and enjoys a balance of filming + editing. You’ll focus primarily on internal projects for OneAway Studios and Weddings by OneAway Studios, with select client projects as needed.
You'll collaborate closely with the Executive Team to cut content for our websites, social media, and YouTube channels.
What you’ll own
- Filming (Primary): Run-and-gun + small crew shoots; interviews, b-roll, scripted and documentary-style pieces; strong audio and lighting fundamentals.
- Editing (Primary): Long-form and short-form; YouTube, Reels/Shorts/TikTok; color balance/grade; basic cleanup; music selection; light sound design.
- Social-first delivery: Cutdowns, hooks, captions, exports across aspect ratios (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) and platforms.
- Light motion/GFX: Lower thirds, logo stingers, text treatments, simple animations; clean brand templates.
- Occasional photography: Stills for thumbnails, blog, behind-the-scenes, and select projects.
- Project flow: Import, organize, proxy/transcode, versioning, backups, Frame.io reviews, and on-time delivery.
- Team play: Collaborate with the Founder and team members; communicate clearly, be open to feedback, and bring proactive ideas.
- Travel (occasional): Shoots across Texas; periodic out-of-state projects.
Sample project types you’ll touch
- OAS + Weddings by OAS: brand films, service explainers, BTS stories, YouTube episodes, sizzlers, case studies
- Corporate & hospitality: social sizzlers, interviews, campaign assets
- Weddings: teasers, highlight films, doc edits, social verticals
Must-haves
- Demonstrated portfolio of filmed + edited work (send links to at least 3 relevant projects).
- Strong in Premiere Pro; working knowledge of After Effects (text/motion basics).
- Solid understanding of lighting & audio; comfortable as a one-person setup when needed.
- Fluent in vertical editing and creating strong hooks for social content.
- Organized editor: bins, naming conventions, proxies, backups, version control.
- Sony ecosystem familiarity (FX3, A7 series, ZV-E1) or quick learner; gimbal/drone a plus.
- Professionalism on set; clear communication, reliable transportation; and a valid driver’s license.
- Work authorization in the U.S.
Nice-to-haves
- Photoshop/Lightroom basics, Audition, DaVinci Resolve color.
- Drone (Part 107), livestream know-how, multi-cam sync.
- Experience with Frame.io, Notion, and Discord workflows.
How we work (tools & workflow)
- Edit: Adobe Premiere Pro (primary), AE for light motion
- Review/Delivery: Frame.io
- Production: Sony cameras, DJI (as applicable)
- Ops: Notion (projects), Discord (team comms), Google Workspace
Schedule, location & travel
- 32–40 hours/week with core collaboration hours on weekdays.
- Hybrid: on-site shoots + in-office edit blocks, with some remote edit flexibility.
- Occasional evenings/weekends for production days.
- Travel across Texas; occasional out-of-state (per diem provided).
Growth path (what success looks like)
- 30 days: Master our edit templates, deliver 2–3 internal pieces/week, cut verticals with strong hooks, and keep projects current in Notion/Frame.io.
- 60 days: Lead small shoots end-to-end; propose repeatable content formats; turn around edits within agreed SLAs.
- 90 days: Own a content pillar (e.g., BTS series or Weddings verticals); raise our bar on look/feel; be the engine behind consistent weekly publishing.
Compensation & benefits
- Hourly (non-exempt) with overtime per law.
- Paid travel days (policy applies), mileage/per diem when applicable.
- PTO & paid holidays eligibility; gear/phone stipends as applicable.
