Job Summary
The Audiovisual Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and administration of AV systems, ensuring reliable, high-quality audio and visual experiences. This role involves both technical expertise and collaboration to support various needs, including instructional delivery, events, and day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- System Design & Implementation: Designing complex audiovisual systems, considering architectural requirements and creating system wiring diagrams.
- Developing and implementing lifecycle plans and budgets for AV systems.
- Collaborating with various teams (e.g., design, construction, IT, consultants) to integrate AV solutions seamlessly.
- Creating and maintaining project documentation, including designs, drawings, and specifications.
- System Administration & Support: Installing, configuring, and administering major AV systems and associated software.
- Overseeing and participating in AV system installations and upgrades.
- Providing advanced technical support for AV issues, including troubleshooting and repairing hardware and software.
- Configuring and supporting video conferencing and streaming platforms.
- Monitoring system performance and capacity, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Technical Leadership & Training: Serving as a technical expert for AV systems and providing guidance to junior staff.
- Developing and delivering user training on AV technologies.
- Creating and maintaining documentation for AV policies, procedures, features, and services.
- Collaborating with diverse stakeholders (e.g., faculty, staff, administrators) to assess AV needs and recommend solutions.
- Working with vendors to manage installations, service issues, and procurement.
- Communicating effectively (written and oral) with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements and policy changes to enhance AV services.
- Staying current with emerging AV technologies, trends, and industry standards through professional development.
Qualifications
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in AV systems design, installation, maintenance, and support. Experience working in an educational, corporate, or institutional setting is often preferred.
- Certifications (Preferred): Crestron Digital Media Certification-Engineer (DMC-E-4K) desirable.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of AV systems and components (e.g., projectors, displays, microphones, speakers, control systems like Crestron, Extron, AMX).
- Understanding of signal transmission, AV over IP technologies, and networking concepts related to AV systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving AV hardware and software problems.
- Experience with various video conferencing and streaming platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex).
- Ability to read and understand architectural and AV system drawings, including creating wiring diagrams.
- Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Physical Demands: The role may require occasional lifting and moving of AV equipment (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces to install and troubleshoot systems.
