This 11-week summer program is designed for rising sophomores and juniors majoring in communications or a related field. Externs will be matched to an 11-week project based on their skills and the Communications business need, with a focus on customer experience initiatives and customer centricity.

What will you learn?

Externs will gain insight into the communication strategy, planning and execution process by completing a project with deliverables that produce tangible, measurable results impacting customers and the Bank.

What will you do?

Externs will have a mentor who is an experienced Communications leader. The mentor will provide opportunities to ask questions, explore business and professional development, and learn about the Bank’s culture and operations. Externs will write Bancorp-wide external communications such as press releases, media alerts and internal feature stories. The program also includes networking and development opportunities, including speaker series, team meetings, customer meetings and additional development activities. At the end of the program, externs will present their projects to their mentor and the Communications Leadership Team, receive feedback, and prepare for a successful career.

Location

This externship will be hosted in person at Fifth Third Bank’s headquarters in Cincinnati, OH.

Requirements

• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
• Undergraduate rising sophomore or rising junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related major
• Work experience, internships or co-op experience helpful but not required
• Desire for a career in communications or marketing
• Proven track record of accomplishments
• Results oriented, with initiative, ownership and accountability
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong professional presence
• Ability to interact with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization
• In-person externship; relocation to the Cincinnati area if not local
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future
