Assistant Sports Editor role at Gannett | USA TODAY NETWORK. The Cincinnati Enquirer, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking an Assistant Sports Editor to join our award-winning team.

The Greater Cincinnati market includes major sports teams and strong high school programs. We are looking for someone who can work hands-on with our reporting team, support audience growth efforts tied to sports, edit on deadline, and develop enterprise reporting. Experience with audience-insight metrics, mobile engagement, digital headline writing/SEO, and multimedia content optimization is a plus.

The role requires a strong self-starter who can adapt to a flexible schedule, swarm around breaking/trending news, and deliver meaningful enterprise for our audience.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise and coach a team of reporters.
• Edit content to Cincinnati Enquirer standards.
• Use metrics to inform story choices and shape coverage strategies.
• Work with the digital production team to ensure optimal engagement on stories.
• Identify opportunities for enterprise and investigative journalism.
• Develop and execute coverage plans for daily coverage and tentpole events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Management experience.
• Experience making coverage decisions based on audience insights.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum liability insurance required by state law.
