$135,000.00/yr - $155,000.00/yr
About the role
The New York Post is looking for an accomplished journalist for the role of Deputy Business Editor. This key leadership role is crucial for shaping and executing The Post’s coverage of business, technology and media. This is a wonderful opportunity for a highly skilled editor to focus on the most dynamic sectors in business with a high-performing and collegial team. The position supervises production of both digital and print.

Responsibilities
- Approve, assign, and edit multiple stories per day across a team of reporters and columnists.
- Demonstrated ability to edit and recast stories into clean and compelling copy on tight deadlines is essential.
- Shape story ideas that reflect the New York Post’s signature tone — sharp, witty, exclusive, and always on the pulse.
- Represent business section at daily meetings with top editors of the paper on a daily basis.
- Serve as a team leader and mentor, helping to develop junior staff while upholding editorial standards.
- Help reporters brainstorm, develop and execute enterprise stories and investigative pieces for The Post’s website and newspaper.
- Key areas of coverage for The Post’s business desk include Wall Street, technology, media, retail and hospitality and real estate.
- Take a leading role in daily production of the print newspaper’s Business section.
- Collaborate with editors in art, photo and digital strategy to generate the greatest impact for stories on the web as well as print.
- Guide daily editorial coverage with a strategic, traffic-savvy mindset — you know what readers will click before they do.
- Use tools like Google Analytics and Parse.ly to analyze traffic trends and make smart editorial decisions.
- Collaborate with photo, video, and social teams to enhance storytelling and keep content dynamic.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years in journalism, including proven editing experience
- Strong experience managing and mentoring editorial teams in a fast-paced newsroom
- Expert-level editing, headline writing, and reporting skills
- Excellent news judgment and a passion for crafting compelling, clickable content
- Knowledge of the business, technology and media sectors is a plus — but a quick study with strong reporting and writing skills could still be an ideal candidate
- Confidence navigating high-pressure, rapid-fire news cycles without sacrificing quality
- Proficiency in CMS platforms (WordPress and Methode a plus)
