BTB Los Angeles is hiring: Fashion Technical Designer Freelance in Los Angeles

We are looking for a highly skilled Freelance Technical Designer to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on precision and ownership, with a deep understanding of garment construction and production. The Technical Designer will oversee the entire technical process—from initial specs to production—ensuring that every style meets the brand’s standards of fit, quality, and execution.

Responsibilities

• Fully own the production process from development through final production approval.
• Create, update, and manage detailed technical packages (tech packs) including specs, BOMs, and construction details.
• Oversee grading, specs, and fit processes, ensuring consistency across all sizes.
• Lead fit sessions; analyze and communicate adjustments to vendors with precise, actionable comments.
• Review and approve proto, fit, and pre-production (PP) samples, ensuring alignment with design intent and quality standards.
• Partner closely with design and production teams to troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.
• Maintain ongoing communication with factories/vendors to ensure deadlines are met and products are delivered to spec.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Technical Designer with hands-on involvement in production.
• Strong knowledge of garment construction, grading, and specs.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and PLM systems (preferred).
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
• Hybrid position (combination of remote and in-person work).
