Job Title: Visiting Librarian

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities
The Adjunct Reference Librarian performs a range of duties in a busy user-oriented academic library environment.
Principal Responsibilities
- Provide ready reference and in-depth reference assistance to library patrons
- Answer questions and provide research assistance using reference materials, including online and print resources
- Demonstrate to library patrons how to search for information using the library's databases and catalog
- Provide reference assistance in various modes including in-person, telephone, live chat and instant messaging services
- Provide library instruction
- Provide assistance with LibGuides when needed
- Supervision of student workers when needed
- Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment and services; provide information about library policies and procedures
- Assist with collection development and other library-related tasks
- Other duties/projects as assigned
Education Requirements
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library science required
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience
- Two years' post-MLS reference experience in an academic library preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong online searching skills and thorough knowledge of academic databases
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to be flexible and work independently and cooperatively
- Able to interact effectively and congenially with library patrons, faculty, staff and student workers
Working Conditions
Library/office environment. Weekend evenings (Saturday and Sunday) required. Other hours may also be assigned based on the needs of the library.
Salary Rate: $32 per hour
